DIN-EN Brake test stands carry out automated tests of hand and foot operated brakes, in accordance with EN 14764, 14766 and 14781. The following is tested:
Static load
Delay in dry and wet conditions
Resistance to thermal stress (fading)
Wear and tear
characteristic line
Each brake system must be mounted on a bike and must be tested completely. The tests are performed in stationary conditions, i.e. travelling at a constant velocity .
Measurements of braking distances by road tests, as they are still described (alternativly) in the EN standards, are tainted with countless technical flaws, making quality assurance a timely and costly process. The thermal behaviour and the wear and tear of the brake system are, for example, not tested.
VCBRAKE2 - DIN-EN brake test stand ------------------------------------------------------ The results of brake tests can vary significantly, even when using identical brake composition and wheel / rim combinations. This makes it all the more important to stay within the test’s boundary conditions, using regulating equipment. According to the EN standards, all deceleration tests must be carried out using clearly defined operating forces. Other tests, e.g. thermal distortion resistance tests and wear and tear tests demand clearly defined braking forces. The test stand is capable of regulating both the operating and braking forces present. This test stand is therefore also capable of carrying out thermal stress resistance tests and wear and tear tests, according to the specified standards. The tests are automated using the VCBRAKE2 programme control system, saving both time and employee costs. VCBRAKE2 features a number of important system advantages:
Accurate measurements: Every single testing load is accurately recorded using calibrated load measurement technology (industrial standard) - a fundamental requirement for a reliable testing method.
Control system:Specially developed control units ensure that the testing loads’ target values are maintained. Any discrepancies due to technical faults or other factors are automatically regulated and corrected.
Monitoring: With the help of sensors the PC monitors the test stand and switches itself off if e.g. a component fractures.
Documentation: The system supplies an automatic documentation of the test sample, the testing conditions, and the results achieved in accordance with ISO 9000 and the following.
User-frindly operation: The graphical user interface (WINDOWS) is designed user-friendly. Already after a short training period the testing can be carried out by employees with no specialist PC knowledge.
Flexibility: Users may choose between pre-set EN, EFBe, or factory standards. They can also set the parameters according to their own test specifications.
Program control: Users can combine various tests in one programme process, which will then run automatically.
The test stand is equipped with a reliable mechanical measurement system with frictionless joints, used for measuring the braking force at the drive roller. Forces which occur during the fixing of the test sample are principally unable to influence the result. The test stand has been designed for various bicycle models (from the 16 inch children’s bike to the tandem) and various testing velocities. Intelligent auxiliary nces enable a fast assembly of the test sample to the test stand. For testing foot operated brakes the additional module VCBRAKE2Z is available.
